Pests can be very destructive when they run out of control. They will destroy anything from crops on the farm to food in the house. Local pest control involves regulating these species using chemicals known as pesticides. The kind of pesticide that you use will depend on the type of pest. Pests range from fungus, mosquitoes, flies, and even fleas. However, before fighting pests, you have to know the kind of lifestyle that they lead, as it will help evaluate the best method of regulating them. The following are effective ways of controlling pets:
- Use of chemical pesticides
Many people would prefer using chemical pesticides to other methods since it has proven to be fast, efficient, and effective. The best thing about this method is that it is only tougher on pesticides but gentle on other organisms. For instance, it is mainly used on pest-infested crops. The chemical will kill the pests but will have no effect on the crops.
These chemicals are available in many forms. The most common forms are powdered and liquid form. All you have to do is dissolve controlled amounts in water and spray the affected plants or the house. It can also be used for local pest control. However, you have to be very keen when using this method as it can be hazardous when carelessly handled.
- Biological control methods
The biological control method is mainly used in greenhouses but has recently gained popularity indoors. The only problem with this kind of control is that it can turn out to be very dangerous and end up harming the crops instead. The effects may be fatal and may pass to the crops at a later stage, causing complications when consumed. However, when professionally handled with caution, it proves to be the most effective among all other methods.
- Fumigation
Fumigation is used when it comes to controlling pests such as fleas. The best thing about fumigation is that it can be done several times within certain periods. It involves filling a place with gaseous chemical or liquid for a period of time. This pesticide works by suffocating the pests. It does not kill instantly. However, many vets recommend this type of pest control as it does not leave any chance of survival or reproduction of larvae. It suffocates the tiniest pests.
- Use of poison baits
Poison baits are used to attract and kill larger pests such as rats. It is effective because it is attractive in nature. It works in two ways. The pest may either eat the bait and get killed later on or get stuck on the bait immediately. This method has recently been used to control flies too.
- Physical pest control
You may opt for this method if the pests are large. For instance, stray dogs are considered pests because they pose a great threat to humanity. Rabies is dangerous and can kill silently. Physical pest control involves causing bodily harm to the pest or setting a physical trap.
Pests have to be controlled lest they cause many killings. Some pests such as locusts are very harmful and can even cause famine. When you notice or suspect pest invasion, it is advisable that you take the necessary precautions before it gets too late.
